I was trying to answer this at the VPW rally, and I got pictures of several second series bed crossmembers.

I will upload them soon, and post a link here.

If memory serves there were both half round and enlogated with a small half round.

I think the half round is the earlier style, and the earlier ones have the bed wood on top of the rear crossmember.
