My dad pulled his 6,000 lb boat and about another 2,000 lbs of trailer/gear for years with basically the same set up in a '69 FOrd F 250.It even looked very much like the one you showed. THe truck did very well pulling, and was very stable. Also, BTW that is an excellent auto tranny, based on Dad's experience and what a tranny man told me once.
THe only problem of sorts was the mileage, what Chris says is true.
THat said, I am not sure that another rig that heavy duty would do much better, unless it is a diesel which might cost a lot more.
