It seems like the "semi-fluid chassis lubricant" is recommended simply because it doesn't get thrown away from the rotating knuckle like wheel bearing or other stiffer greases. The semi-fluid lubricant would seek it's own level and provide a constant lubrication surrounding the knuckle, rather than a hollowed out area where the knuckle rotates. This from a dumb carpenter. :-}
