No, Norm, 3 does not equal 16 and Dana is not impling that. If you read that whole document they say not to exceed 3 degrees or the recommended maximum for the joint. Then later on they have a chart of maximum angle vs. rpm. At 1500 rpm they recommend approximately 11 degrees as the max angle. They are not in any way suggesting that 3 equals 16 or that 3 equates to 16 or that 3 is equivalent to 16. They are simply trying to help installers understand how many factors affect the performance of the driveshaft. Unfortunately, there are a lot of rules of thumb such as your 16 degree one. However, every time you simplify a complex issue like this, you: 1) lose information, and 2) error on the side of caution.
