I think I have some pics still, but I didn't post them. As I recall,I ground a couple ears down as I installed power steering on a 1/2t command car. The ears are there to fixture the gearbox when machined at the factory. I also bent the frame lips to clear the bulges in the gear. The bulges may have hydraulic passages within. If you ground into the hydraulics, maybe you can braze it back up and redrill the passage? You'll have to strip the box first...
