Steering Wheel Saga

I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS! I bid and won a Military Steering Wheel puller off ebay. I receive the puller and it doesn’t have the yokes for the steering column included. After several emails to the seller, he has yet to respond. So I went to a local recycling yard and found a round stock the size of the steering column and 5/16 x 2 ½ flat stock. Now I heat bend the flat stock around the bar for a horse shoe shape. Then I heat bent a 3/8 x 3/8 square stock around the yoke and weld it to the top to prevent the column yoke from slipping through the yoke of the puller. The last piece was applying tungsten to the top of the yoke for a hard surface. I assembled the puller to the steering column and begin my pull of the wheel. I tighten and tighten then grabbed a breaker bar and tightened some more. I bet I had 100 foot pounds of torque banging it with a rubber mallet and it still did not come off – sj^*()&*&^^^*kdhkjrewhreh! I notice the steering wheel has a hollow hole in its side going into the worm shaft. I’m sure if someone has put a tension pin or what the heck its for. Anyone have any thought on this? Thanks
