Brownie overdrive identification help

These photos are of a unit in a modified weapons carrier. It is mounted between the transmission and transfer case.

Can anybody help identify exactly what this is? I can't find much info on Brown-Lipe overdrives. Are there other types of vintage overdrives otu there?

This thing is half a continent away from me. I haven't completely ruled out that it is an overdrive and not an underdrive.
