How to find a WDX-WM300 Frame Number

All WDX-WM300 trucks have the Serial Numbers stamped into one of the front frame rails. Depending on what year the truck was built, or what plant it was built at, the number may be in different locations.

Dodge may have used a small child with a tack hammer to strike the number die, as the stamps are often shallow, and may be hard to find. To find the numbers on the frame the area where the numbers are may need to be cleaned down to bare metal.

The image below shows one of the more common locations for the Serial number on the frame of 1946 WDX- 1960 WM300s, though it may be several inches to either side, above, or below this location.

The number is found on the drivers side of the frame, facing out, just to the rear of the upper shock bracket, near the top edge of the frame. It is marked with chalk in this picture. This frame is from a 1949 B-1.

On some trucks the frame number has been found on the drivers side frame rail, almost at the front of the frame.

Some trucks may have the Serial number on the passenger side of the frame at any point during production (though this is rare). The 1961-68 WM300s often had the serial number stamped on the passenger side, see the images below for the 1961-1968 WM300 frame number location.

Because of the inconsistency of the frame number locations it is important to check more then one area for the number before giving up. The numbers are also often covered over by welded on aftermarket accessories, these may need to be removed to find some numbers.

Checking the frame number is a good idea even with trucks that have tags, as it is quite common to see the tags swapped and all kinds of other things being changed. These were work trucks, and were fixed up just enough to get the job done, nobody was worried about anything other than function.

I hope to update this page from time to time as more info becomes available, and feedback is given about other information that would be good to include on this page.
