Talking to my cousin who sells industrial supplies incl wire rope, I gained an interesting perspective. He indicated tht his choice would be for the 6x37 fibre core due to its greater flexibility , but mostly because it had less "memory".
16540 lbs breaking sength for this in 7/16" diam gives a working strentgh of <gulp> 3308 lbs.
