boy am i glad i wasn't on the road when it happened, but rather sitting in the driveway putting the correct steering wheel on. i knew that two of the bolts had already broken, so i didn't dare take it anywhere, but putting on the steering wheel finished 'em off. i had just gotten the wheel on and was turning it and SNAP! then the wheel turned really easy!
this is on a '58 W200. It broke right where the curved steering link arm meets the axle. its tied into the axle via 4 bolts, with the pivot point on the bottom. any suggestions for fixing it right? i know that the bolts are going to have to be drilled and the holes retapped, should i use grade 8 bolts on it, or will they be too hard and snap? any diagrams of the dana44 front axle would be helpful, i have to rebuild my front wheel cylinders soon and figured i could fix it then, but i want to do it right. thanks all. Jason
