Yes! I waz on the trail of a couple of them. The vehicle(s) I am on the Trail of are the XM410 and the XM410E1 These are 8X8's that Chrysler built in the late 50's Very early 60's. The XM410 was built around 1958 and 6 were built. Out of those 6, 4 are still known to exist. Prototype #1 lives in Dryden Michigan setting out back of the farm, rotting in peace. I was going to try to snag this one a couple years ago, but life kinda got in the way. It is free for the taking but there aint much left of it, and it is filled with scrap metal. There are 2 XM410s, that live up by Grayling Michigan. One is fully intact and is under restoration, another is a parts truck. And then there is one in Colorado that Fred Coldwell knows of. There is still 2 yet to be accounted for. The XM410 used fully independant suspension, disk brakes, the front 4 wheels steered, some used the Contental LDS 6 cyl engine while the ones I have seen had a Chrysler 361 Industrial. They have push button automatic transmissions, they are amphibious. The bodies are made of Aluminum, and the wheels are 18 inch that take 14X18 inch rubber. The wheels are the same 5 lug bolt pattern as the Power Wagon-M-37. When the XM410's were surplussed out, I THINK 4 of them went to a farm in Dryden (about 1/2 hour from where I live now), and #1 still lives there.
There were alot more of the xm410E1s made than the 410's I THINK there was 23 E1's made, and I know 8 of them still exist, and 2 are within 1/2 hour of me also.
Try to find out what this thing is, and possibly send pics to me, or even better yet, to Joe who can put them on this board. I showed pics of them on the board here a couple years ago. They are truely awesome machines!
