I grew up on a Montana ranch. Work was long and hard, money was scarce and we were always under the gun to get things done. The weather ruled our lives - it could break you in minutes after you spent months or years of effort. Blizzards in the winter, usually during calfing season. Drought, wild fires or floods at other times. I always figured that Las Vegas gamblers couldn't even hold a candle to farmers and ranchers.
