A week or two ago Jock Maclean ask about adjusting valves and the procedure. At the time I replied saying that I had instructions on how to adjust them with the engine off but hot. I have not been able to find these instruction until today. I wasn't even looking for them and their they were.
I'm not gauranteeing this procedure but it worked for me. Also, I started the engine after "Stage A" and let it get back to running temp again before I went to "Stage B."
VALVE ADJUSTMENT
STAGE "A"
Cylinders #1 & #6 at top dead center with #1 at firing position.
STAGE "B"
Cylinders #1 & #6 at top dead center with #6 at firing position
Stage "A".....ADJUSTMENT
#1 both valves
#2 inlet valve
#3 exhaust valve
#4 inlet valve
#5 both valve
Stage "B".....ADJUSTMENT
#2 both valves
#3 inlet valves
#4 exhaust valve
#5 inlet valve
#6 both valve
You have probably noticed it is calling for the inlet valve on cylinder #2 to be adjusted twice, once in Stage A and again in Stage B. Not sure if that is an error or not I just copied it. Of course it wouldn't hurt to adjust it twice anyway. :-)
