My 1970 W200 is like yours, with the parking brake on the rear axle. But my 1968 W300 still has the external contracting parking brake on the back of the 201 t/c, and I have adjusted it to work very well. Simple is good. The 1969 and later W300 apparently used the 205 t/c and had the parking brake in the Dana 70 rear axle drums.
Could you install an external parking brake on your '65 & 68 W200 201 t/c's from earlier W200s? I'd think it would be a bolt on. You'd have to shorten the rear drive shaft, but the increase in long model wheelbase length (122" to 128", don't know about shorties) should absorb a shorter rear drive shaft.
