Will the bolts react with aluminum?

Gents - I once used some fasteners on an aluminum camper and found that the aluminum turned to dust right where it contacted the fasteners - switched to brass.

However - for the life of me I can't remember what the screws were made of that forced the reaction - bare steel, zinc coated?....I know that they were not stainless.
