OT- Nd Help--T.C. cover removal on 360

I have a water leak around the timing chain cover --due to incompetent work done during engine overhaul. I will not let that shop work on my rig again! I have a new gasket set and am trying to remove the TC cover.

Question--do I have to drop the oil pan or just remove the two oil pan bolts which attach to the TC cover? I'm guessing not, since the TC gasket set did not include an oil pan gasket. But I don't want to guess since getting to the front of the engine on a B350 van has taken 6 hrs and I can't afford to do this again!
