I don't have my UPC in front of me, and I don't even know if it is a code issue, I just know that galvanized pipe used for gas line, in lieu of black iron, will flake and clog orifices and pilot burners. It would not be a problem if used for air lines. I have seen inspectors require galvanized gas lines to be removed and replaced with black iron within 15' of a device. I don't know if they were citing code or just throwing their weight around.
