That is all speculation until he answers some of my questions. To span 24' clear span in certain seismic zones where permits are required is very expensive. However trusses can be manufactured to solve that problem. The cost will be considerably more, as much as double, over metal framing. I can build you a metal framed Gambrel that you could not tell from conventional wood. The advantage of wood is that most novices can build with it, until the 12' of snow comes the following winter and crushes them. Let's see what he has to say. You can go lower in height, but at least 20' feet needs to be dedicated for the vehicle, full height. You will find a need some time in the future for a Large truck orRV etc. That has to be taken into consideration now. Engine hoisting etc. also will require that height. Because of teh direction that the floor/roof joists must run, that only leaves him 10'x 24' of loft in addition to the lost floor space for the stair access.
