Just a litte history on the international M-2-4, the truck is rated at 1 ton, production begab with a lot of 514 with cargo bodies and 70 cargo bodies and winches, and some of these had cabs from the K-seiers commercial truckswith the military hood and fenders, the remaining of the total of 10450 produced all were open cabswith cargo bodies, winched and radio sheilding. this model was primarily for use with USMC combat units in the same role as the as the dodge Wc's that the Army used, and many of them remained in service in the USMC long after world war 2.
There were 4 basic models built in the international run,
M-1-4 which is the half ton version
M-2-4 which is the 3/4 ton version
M-3-4 which was the 1 1/2 ton version
M5-6 which was the 2.5 ton version,
the first digit after the Mindicates the trucksoff road rating in units of 1000 pounds and the last digit indicates the number of driven wheels. but of course with all ww2 military trucks there road rating was double there off road rating, the m-1-4 was the smallest of the series and only 1123 of them were built, they all had open bodies with canvas tops, the international model number was 214 and 237 and all had a 114 inch wheelbase, of these trucks the first 57 were built with cargo bodies,4 with cargo bodies and radio shielding, and 9 ambulances, only 70 trucks of this seroes was built in '41 and they were all used by the USMAC Provisional Expeditionary Brigade which was sent to Icelandin july 1941, before the US entered ww2.
the remainer of the production of M-1-4 series with cargo bodies were for the USMCcombat units. The M-1-4 ambulances all went to the US Navy Mediacl Dept., for front line usethe ambulances were used all thru ww2 while the M-1-4 was replaced with the M-2-4. there was also 6702 M-3-4 built and they wee built on two wheelbases the actual M# for this series was M-3L-4 which had a 239 inch wheelbase and the total produced was 3742 trucks out of that 398 of them were cargo body,20 were dump trucks, 2122 were fuel trucks with 600 gallon tanks, 122 of them were built for light wreckers, and the remaining 1008 were aviation crash trucks. the M-3H-4 were 150 inch wheelbase, and a total of 2690 were built of these 2320 were cargo trucks,100 of them were airfield floodlight trucks,210 aviation crash trucks, and the remaining 60 were chassis on for special bodies. the last series of these trucks were the M-5-6 series of them there were 41,287 built some of these 20,967 were buil on a 149 inch wheelbase these beinf 200 cargo trucks,16,492 dump trucks,245 medium wreckers, 2,280 tankers, 800 chassis only and the remaining 1000were road tractors for semi trailers. the M-5H-6 was the 169 inch wheelbase models and ther were 20,320 of these consisting of 11,110 cargo trucks,3210 chassis for special bodies and the remaing 6000 were built as road tractors. Well I hope this helps these were some cool trucks and they are getting rare especially the M-1-4 and the M-2-4 as most were shipped overseas and never returned the ones left in the USA are few and far between, I will have to say i like my dodge's much better heck i love my dodge's,but my second favorite would have to be these International's Is everone tired yet, Guess these could be called Flat Fenders in a way:):):) i didnt mean that or did I. Have fun.
