The way that one worked was somebody responded to one of the emails "from Ebay" claiming there was a problem with lost data, and their privilidges would end in 24 hours.
The only way to deal with such emails is Forward them to Spoof@ebay.com cause they are all scams to get your ebay information.
PayPal is now owned by Ebay, and is being run thru Wells Fargo bank. PayPal is as secure as any other time you use your credit card and the information is transmitted via wire.
PayPal isn't a bargain to the seller, but it is convenient. They have now begun an on line bill paying service, comparable to many banks, and it is free to PayPal users. I've used PayPal for a few years, and though I was a bit concerned about it being a German bank and not truly subject to US banking laws, the risk was acceptable.
As to the potentila problems associated with PayPal having access to my bank account, that was easy, I have a seperate account they have access to, and the balance is kept under what I can afford to loose.
Finally, credit card users need to be aware of their rights and responsibilitys relative to the card. Liability for fraud is limited to $50- by law, and I have yet to hear of any bank even trying to collect the $50-. Banks don't want you standing in front of the local TV camera giving them bad publicity, so they simply recover the money fraudulently taken from the receiving party. Any merchant accepting credit cards is at risk every time he takes one cause the fraudulent use liability is the merchants, and his alone.
