the bigger tire has a bigger indentation to protect the bigger flange. the ring is retained by the inner diameter of the tire and the air in the tube. You just try and remove a ring wihout first breaking the bead enough to let the ring out of it's groove, it is the bead, not the indentation that locks ring to rim. I'll bet my life on the mismatch, I certainly have. anybody else running 9.00 on 5.5's? Anybody got any negative first hand experience ?
