1. The parts books claim the change was made at VIN number 21420, so if you have a 58 W100 with a V8 that would be L8W1L21420 or 20420th truck made in 1958.

As to how many W100s were made after or before this point, that is anyones guess.

2. Ratios in both semi floaters, and full floaters were 4.10 and 4.88.

3. Yes

4. The differenace between a W100 and W200 in later 58 production was the greater number of spring leaves in the rear springs. That is about it. Front springs, and axles were the same.

5. Spring width was the same on all 58 W100, W200, D100-D300s.

6. Gear ratios on a 1956 1 tons were most likely 4.88 or 4.10, but I would have to research to make sure there were not other choices. It should bolt right in to your 58 W100.

I am buying a rear end out of a 56 1 ton, and a 60 1 ton to use for spares on my friends trucks that use full floating coporate axles. They are all pretty much the same from 54 up to 60, except for the spring perches on the 59-60 trucks(I think).

Hope this answers all your questions!!

Eric
