this from an 'auto body glossary' site:
DIAMOND: A condition in which the vehicle is hit hard in the front or the back corners, pushing the frame side rails hard enough to move the crossmembers, forming a diamond shape within the frame structure.
This is also how to check for square on anything symetrical that doesn't have straght sides, I use it on furniture, my brother used it as a shipfitter. To check for flatness, tie 2 strings across diagonaly (make an X ). the 2 strings should barely touch, try deflecting each one to see how twisted things are. Geometry, Metal shop, and Auto shop were my favorite subjects.
