I rewired a kiln at work recently, and the best wire I found is a high temp. type designed for heating appliances. It has a silicon rubber insulation (not plastic), and an outer wrap of white fiberglass braid that makes it look a lot like the original FFPW wiring. It is rated @ 200 degrees C (about 450 F) and I believe it comes in different colors.(the outer braid is the same, inner rubber layer different color?) Mostly used in stoves, ovens etc. The local electrical supplier keeps it for use in the oil patch where the higher temp rating is needed, but I would guess that most appliance repair places should keep it.
