re: 1964 W200 Sweptline "Power Wagon"
This truck has the fuel tank behind the seat. I'm pretty sure that it either has a "sunk float" or theirs an "open" circuit between the wiper and the exterior terminal (if that's even possible). When I ground out the sending unit wire, the gage registers "full," otherwise it just sits on "empty." I've never removed one of these units, but from the three little "tabs" that protrude through the three slots, it would appear to be a straightforward process. Am I missing something here. I'm sure there was a tool designed for this job, but what I was going to use was a piece of 1/4" flat bronze plate (non-sparking) material, placed on-edge so that it engages two of the tabs, and then "persuade" it the twist off, with a BFH. Do I hear any alternate methods that I should consider?
If it is a "sunk float," and it's not repairable, does anyone know where I can obtain a replacement sending unit?
