I've seem this power assist setup in trucks and cars dating back to the early 60's.As a matter of fact,I once saw a 62-63' ford stationwagon with a simular power asist as was used in the 70's ford granada.I have a 70's 3/4ton pwr assist unit like yours I disasembled, you are wecome to it for parts if you decide to go that route(drg link&cyl)I just didn't have the time(really cash!)to fool w/it.As far as a dif. rotation,I would think that all you would have to do is swap the in-out hoses on the cyl.The reason I suggested this type setup was not that it is any better, but that it accomplished the same thing as a pwr str gr box while retaining the orig. str wheel, colume, and box,a plus in my view. The only hard part about it would be how to attach the draglink w/modern ends to the PW balltype.
