David, whether it's syncro or not, the answer
is to double clutch. Here's the routine:
clutch in
shift to neutral
clutch out
blip throttle
clutch in
shift to lower gear
clutch out.

The idea is to have the clutch engaged in
neutral when you blip the throttle so that
the engine spins the input shaft up to the
same speed as the output shaft which is being
turned by the drive wheels. Since the two
shafts now are turning the same speed, the
dog rings or syncros are matched in speed
and easily engage each other without crunching.

Takes some practice, but it's worth the effort.

Also, with the M37, it seems easiest to downshift
after slowing and turning the corner. In other
words, maybe shift to neutral and let the clutch
out as you're braking or slowing, then negotiate
the corner, and when you're ready to accelerate,
clutch in
shift to lower gear
clutch out,

and you're on your way.

Hope this helps,

PB
