Well, I don't own a Cummins or a Navistar powered truck. Just my '48 PW. In business selling forging and heat treating equipment, one of my customers is the Navistar plant in Chicago. While I was in there on a cylinder sleeve hardening project for their DT466 inlines, one of the guys took me into the dyno room.
Jeez.. There were about 7 engines on test, three were Ford PS turbo diesels on the dyno screaming at 6200 rpm for a 40 hour durability test. I have never seen exhaust manifolds and turbos on a diesel glowing bright orange. About 1350 degrees I'd say. Gas engines yes.
Besides the noise, I had the fear parts may liberate themselves from that mass of detriot light alloy. (cast iron) The response wasn naah... they don't pop during "this" test......
