Engine ID Help?

A friend just bought a flat fender that had a V-8 installed many years ago by the original owner. My friend was told it was a 318. I looked at the motor and it is similar to the 318 Poly, however the intake is different than the ones I have seen in polys from the 60's era. It looks older. The valve covers have three bolts on the top instead of the two I am familar with. I can not get to the block just yet, mud snow and close quarters because of the V-8 install in the flat fender.
