wow, it shouldn't have hurt the amp gauge, it may have screwed up some of the charging system. you said you have an altenator, with an external regulator? maybe it just ruined the regulator. if you did any serious snow plowing I think you would have drained the new battery though, It doesn't take long to drain my battery in my plow truck, it usualy regains its charge on the drive to the next driveway I need to plow.
