I have a '55 Pontiac with a '58 engine with the distribution tubes. They are copper, or atleast copper in appearance. I last saw them in '92(when I built the engine) and they were just fine after the 34 years they had been in service. Previous to the '58 was a '57 Pontiac engine, same story. So I have seen just the opposite: a copper appearing material used for the distribution tubes that has lasted quite a few years with no sign of corrosion.
Disclaimer: I did not have the tubes tested by a metallurgist to determine the material.
