Naturally, work outside on any fuel problems and have someone near with a hose, extinguisher, etc.
If it was me, I would remove the coil wire to prevent engine from starting.
With fuel filters and pump connected, disconnect fuel line at carb and route it to a coffee can. Then crank the engine. If fuel is going in the can, it is probably the carb.
You could also measure the pressure. I think about 3 or 4 lbs should be about right. My two cents.
