Don't solder or braze the frayed cable. You'll only temper the steel thus weakening it. Soon it will break. (One of those things that will break when it's parked on a hill of course...)
I had a new one made for my '48 PP by Tewco Inc. Tewco is a national company with offices in most major cities.
They made the whole thing. Cable outer with new ends, inner cable, eyelet end, and threaded end. Just thread your clevis on. You must bring in your old one for sizing etc. Get the 3000lb test size. I paid $47 in 1994. If you can't find the outlet in your city, the Milwaukee WI number is 414-423-8080
