My 1st WM300 had a rebuilt 251 from a eng. rebuild company in Atlanta, Ga. It had a Spitefire head on it and the eng.# showed it to be a 265 but the stroke was that of a 251 meaning a 265 had been rebuilt with a 251 crank. Most people would have said it was a 265 spitefire by sight but technically it was a 251cu.in. engine after the rebuild.
Without checking the stroke, a eng. could be mistaken for one or the other.
Years ago I saw LA-273s mistaken for LA-318s
and 360s for 318s till folks became educated about the LA-small block family of engines and the differences between them.
