rotating crank by hand

I want to try to rotate and engine that has sat for a while. Supposedly "it ran before parked". What size socket is required for the nut on the end of the crank. I think I will have to take the correct size socket and grind it down so it will fit into the hole in the bottom of the radiator. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Jerry Henry
