One way to look at this issue is to consider the civilian style W series trucks. For example, my W300's all have centered Dana 70 axels with 4.88 gears. The NP201 transfer case is basically the functional equivalent of a NP200 with the output on the e-brake shaft. I've run about 80,000 miles on my primary truck, lots at freeway speeds up to 80 MPH (with 40" tires) and I don't have any gear whine that I can hear over the wind noise, plus no need for tranfer rebuild. I did put speedy sleeves and new seals in, and I run synthetic oil in all my gearboxes, but I think it's the way to go. I'm doing the WC51 centered housing in the 53B4 I'm working on now, with 4.89's and a 360 repower. Rob
