I have a 56 FF Powerwagon that I used as a daily driver for a couple years. First thing I did was convert the front end to a GM Corp 10 with 4.10 gears and disk brakes. Changed the spindles and rotors to 3/4 ton for 8 bolt rims. Put a GM one ton rear end in the back with a Detroit locker and 4.11 gears. Set the whole thing on Buckshot Radials to soften the ride. Like I said at the start, this lasted a couple years even with the mods. Power steering would have been nice. I drive a 2002 3/4 ton Cummins Dodge every day now. The Cummins isn't as loud as the old FF rolling down the road. Oh, one last item to think about. I live in Alaska and don't know what one of them there freeways are. The trucks were made to work not to cruise.
