Guys,
I have been working on my 57 W100 for most of the day and I can not get spark.
The engine turns over, I have replaced all the parts in the distributor, and I have checked all the wires for continuity(SP?) as well as voltage when the ingnition is on.
Here is what I have found:
I have 12 volts coming from the ING side of the ingnition switch to the ballast resistor.
I have 12 volts on the other side of the ballast resistor.
I have 12 volts on the + side of the coil (from the ballast resistor).
I have 12 volts on the - side of the coil.
I have 12 volts at the points.
What am I missing?
How do you test the ballast resistor? Is it supposed to show 12 V on both sides?
How do you test the coil? Should it have 12 V on both sides?
The points are grounded by the Distributor, and therfore I should or should not have continuity across the points?
Any ideas welcome, as this is starting to get me annoyed.
On the good side, I took several breaks from the ignition system today, and fixed:
Headlights(bad dimmer switch)
Dash lights(bad headlight switch reostat)
Marker lights(corrosion)
Charging sytem(had been modified to a alternator, I put it all back to original, and it appears to work)
Plus I finished several items on the TW.
Thanks for any help you can provide!!
I would like to drive this truck before I go to CT!
Eric
