I somehow remember that the flash point of gasoline is lower than 32 F (or something really low like that). And that gasoline can self-ignite under the right conditions at almost any time.
(Not sure if this is related but just today I heard a story of someone using rubber cement thinner on photographic film, and just the friciton from rubbing caused a small explosion and singed the guy's mustache and eyebrows!) Ouch!
