The Humvee was designed by Chrysler Defense, and then sold to AMC's defense division, AMGeneral. So technically it WAS a Jeep, until last year when gm bought the company. The Humvee and Hummer were built in the same plant as the Kaiser/AMC M715, and the two wheel drive postal Jeep.
As for cargo haulers, the Gamma Goat was a short lived attempt (total junk!) to replace the M37, the Army was so hard up to replace it's aging fleet of M37's that stock พ ton Dodges and gm's were used to fill the gap from 1971 until the late '70's and early '80's, when the Humvee was developed.
