My father told my why. He explained that the world as he knew it was changing. He didn't say it was good or bad, just that times were changing. Life is faster now, and busier. Values have changed. Material things have become more important than people. Money has become the the main goal for many people. Highways are bigger and faster but more crowded and slower. Cities are bigger and closer but more unfriendly and harsh. Family farms are disappearing and are replaced by corporate conglomerates. Open country side is being replaced by houses, concrete and asphalt. Old roads and back country byways are being locked up. It makes a person wonder what it's all for.
Sometimes you just have to get into an old truck and drive away from it all. The smell of oil, the sound of the engine coming through the uninsulated firewall, the bounce of the unforgiving suspension is what we need sometimes to bring us back to the simple things in life.
Well, I've waxed poetic. Who says a red neck power wagon man doesn't think deep? Now about that rust......
