I have had a lock-right in the back of my Jeep for over 8 years, and I drive it every day. There is no problem in loose gravel unless you get on the gas. I have had it fishtail on ice, but never out of control. I certainly would not want a locker in the front, with the hubs locked in 4wd, and driving on icy roads. I have an ARB air locker in my jeep front end so I can put it in 4wd and not have a locked front end for icy roads. I have heard of some with automatic lockers in the front leave 1 hub unlocked for icy roads.
