sounds like the starter drive stuck- it's the clutch behind the gear, it lets the flywheel spin faster than the starter. When it sticks, the stater spins 15 times faster than the engine speed- rev it to 3,000, starter goes 45,000 rpms.. Centrifugal forge than causes the armatur to expand til it seizes to inside of field windings. Sounds like time for a new starter, this one is totalled. also, your engagement fork stuck too...
