Shopping for a mid 70's to early 80's PW - things to look for?

I have recently become enamored by the Dodge Power Wagon and Ramcharger. I could use some hints on what to look for as far as drivetrains, engines, certain years to look for / avoid, etc. I will be looking for something in the $1500 to $2500 range.
