I've never had one out so tell me,when you say cast ,do you mean aluminum or some type pot metal? Either way I would suspect warming up the cast piece would make it slightly more plyable and less likely to crack or break?
Purhaps a C - clanp or vice giving constant pressure while you heat the piece and slowly increasing the pressure?
