You can do anything. Frank Irons did a very nice job of setting a 440 in a '48 flat fender. A fellow in WI has a 396 hemi in a flatfender. It's your truck be as creative as you like. It just makes everyone elses original truck more valueable.
I dont think I would use a 400 though, I seem to remember reading something about them not being very good engines. Spend another few bills and get a 360. You'll have to find a dual outlet PTO trans to run a stock braden, or you could use a hydraulic winch....
