Any idea why VPW sells 150' spools of 7/16" to refill the MU-2?
FWIW, the listed (nominal) strength for 6x19 wire ropes and relative length for a reference spool are:
5/16" - 4.58 tons - 240'
3/8" - 6.56 tons - 160'
7/16" - 8.89 tons - 110'
1/2" - 11.5 tons - 80'
Note: Any prudent individual will take a wide safety factor into consideration for these numbers.
I find it interesting that the 3/8" chain sold in "hardware" stores is quoted at approx 2600# working strength, which is but a fraction of the MU-2 capacity. Higher (much higher) strength chain is available, but pricey.
