My '85 Ram 350 Custom has a 4 speed tranny with compound low gear in first, i would like to swap it out to a five speed for better fuel economy/lower RPM's on the freeway however, I still want roughly the same gearing,(obviously it'll change a little to accomidate the fifth gear) as I do tow heavy loads frequently. what Dodge transmissions will fit? and have the same gearing? as well as a non hydraulic clutch? and will it be heavy duty enough? this truck was built for towing at the factory, so it has HD everything(brakes, suspension, engine, etc.) and I want a tranny tough enough to handle it. any ideas? i know they started putting the five speeds in around 86-87 for mass production, but were they available before then? any help would be appreciated. Peace, Jason
