58 W200; Different front springs for V8 & 6cyl?.

I have 2 58 W200 Power Giant's. One has a factory V8 and one has the factory flathead 6. I noticed that the front springs of the V8 truck have more leaves than the front springs on the 6.Is this a factory setup to have more spring capacity since the V8 is a heavier engine, or has someone modified the springs on one of these trucks?
