SHIFTING UP:
1 low-1 high (*click* up, off gas then back on after rear shifts)
1 high-2low, (off gas *click* down, shift to 2nd, rear end will shift during gear shift when drivetrain unloads)(some people shift the rear AFTER the gearshift but before releasing clutch to prevent hang-ups between gears)
2 low-2 high (*click* up , off gas, then back on after rear shifts)
2 high-3low (repeat 1-2 shift technique), right on up.
With 5 speeds, 4 high is usually higher than 5 low, so you'd go 4 low to 5 low to 4 high to 5 high IF you're using all 10 speeds.
SHIFTING DOWN:
4 high-4 low (drop road speed down to shiftable RPM on all downshiftsº *click* down, off gas, then mash gas to unload drivetrain and rev up to match RPM)
4 lo-3 high (*click* up, regular downshift to 3rd, rear end will shift between gears when drivetrain unloads, bring RPM up to match)
3high-3 low (off throttle, *click* down, back on throttle and rear will downshift)
etc.
ºThey won't downshift if RPM is too high and may hang between gears with a mighty gnashing of teeth while your loaded truck runs away with you braking furiously
Most the time rear low gears are not needed unless loaded so one can drive it like a regular 4 spd.
Try mixing a 2 speed rear with a 4 speed brownie and a 13 speed road ranger. Talk about getting lost in the gears!!!
